The aim was to create a building with two distinct faces. Facing the street the facade resembles traditional block perimeter development. Facing the court it presents itself much warmer using wooden railings to embrace the court.
Next the block perimeter development was broken open and made accessible to the public. Additionally the building itself was dissolved toward the top floors.
This was intended to be a postmodernesque critique on block perimeter development and the gated communities of Berlin.
The building uses concrete for the first floor and wooden construction for the upper floors. Consequently fire safety regulations was an important factor in the design process.
